Alijos Rocks  September 9th-18th 2008

Alijos Rocks

After a very successful trip to Alijos Rocks in June 2007, we are now booking our trip for June 2008.  Here is a recap of last years trip.

After a great day on the Pacific Ocean we arrived at San Benitos Island at around 2 pm on day 2. We anchored at Lunker Rock in hopes for some Yellowtail action to warm up prior to heading off to the famed Alijos Rocks.  Unfortunately, the Yellowtail and White Sea Bass did not want to play.  We made one more dive at San Benitos the following day, but with off colored water we decided like kids on their first trip to Disneyland to load up the skiffs and headed off in the deep blue water off Baja to Alijos Rocks.

Around 9 a.m. the next morning we were greeted with 65 degree blue water and the “Rocks” looming on the Horizon.  After the first dive in the 100 plus foot visibility on a dive spot called “5 Fathoms” some of us ventured into the shallower area around the “Rocks” themselves.  This move was rewarded with Yellowfin Tuna to 87 pounds and Yellowtail to 54 Pounds. Not bad for our first two dives at Alijos Rocks.

The next 3 ½ days we were greeted with visibility in the 125 foot range, a hand full of Pargo, big Yellowtail with many fish over 45 pounds and 5 fish over 50 pounds, and more Yellowfin Tuna in the 50 to 75 pound range.  We also saw Green Sea Turtles, Grouper, Mexican Hog Fish, Galapagos and Silky Sharks along with numerous tropical reef fish.

If you are interested in Joining Bodega Bay Pro Dive aboard the M/V Horizon do not wait.  We are moving the dates of the trip a couple of weeks in 2008 to increase the possibility of encountering Wahoo and Dorado as well as the Trophy Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna taken in 2007.  Space is extremely limited and spots are going fast.  The dates of the 2008 trip are being set as you are reading this, and tentatively are going to be June 17th to 26th, the price for this 10 day freedive/spearfishing adventure is $3350, and is limited to 16 divers. This price includes everything but travel to San Diego and crew tip.  Don’t miss the best dive trip on the west coast.

One of the most virgin dive destinations in the world, located 155 miles off of the Baja, California peninsula and 480 miles south of San Diego, this destination is for the true adventurer in all of us!

Due to this destinations remote nature, only a handful of people have had the opportunity to dive this amazing offshore  destination.
