"After spending a day fishing and diving the kelp paddies en route to San Benitos, the spearos were greeted by a look iinto the azure blue of Baja's Channel Islands. What greeted them was 68 degree water temperature and 80 to 100 feet of visibility. Clouds of bait swirled everywhere, with huge schools of Yellowtail, Pacific Benito to temp their spears. This year just as with our earlier trip to Alijos Rocks in June, Green Sea Turtles abounded.
During the following 4 days of diving, Yellowtail came consistently on board, with the group treated to 100 plus feet of visibility daily. The water temperature stayed in the high 60 degree range. Dives at sites such as Yellowtail Alley produced sightings of schools of Yellowtail numbering in the hundreds, with some upwards of 300 fish. This is San Benitos at it best, great visibility, and huge schools of gamefish" Capt. Greg Grivetto, M/V Horizon.
